The advanced training course “National Courts and the International Rule of Law” was inaugurated on Monday 1 February 2016, with a lecture by the Secretary General of the Hague Conference on Private International Law, His Excellency Dr. Christophe Bernasconi.
During the lecture Dr.Bernasconi provided the participants with a short summary on the background of the Hague Conference on Private International Law and its achievements.
The course, which is organized in cooperation with the Grotius Center of International Law of Leiden University forms a part of HCLA’s professional training agenda.
Several high-ranking judges and prosecutors took part in the event.
On the second day of the advanced training course “National Courts and International Rule of Law”, on Tuesday, the participants met with the President of the Supreme Court of the Netherlands, His Honor, Justice Maarten Feteris.
During the meeting Mr. Feteris briefed the guests on the structure and functions of the Dutch Supreme Court and its role in clarifying legal ambiguities and maintaining the unity of the legal system.
The meeting ended with some questions of the participants on the independence of Dutch Judicial system from the Government.
The Hague Center for Law and Arbitration and The Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies of Leiden University organizing a joint advanced training course “National Courts and the International Rule of Law” .
A group of high ranking Judges and Prosecutors will participate in the program which will take place from 1 till 5 February 2016 at HCLA's conference room in The Hague.
During the course several top academic and international figures will deliver lectures for the participants.
