As a part of their agenda for the course "National Courts and International Rule of Law", the participants met with the Deputy General of Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical weapons, His Excellency, Mr. Hamid Ali Rao.
Mr.Rao briefed the participants on the objectives of the organization, and its role in maintaining international peace and security. He pointed out the contributions of OPCW regarding chemical disarmament of the Syrian government and considered the case a great success for this organization.
He also emphasized on the importance of the organization for the implementation of Chemical Weapons Convention, including through enforcing its national legislation.
Participants of the course "National Courts and International Rule of Law" received a lecture on International Law in Domestic Courts, with a focus on the Srebrenica cases before Dutch Courts.
The lecture was delivered by Prof. Dr. Nico Schrijver from the Grotius Center for International Legal studies of Leiden University.
Issues like the immunity of UN and responsibility of the sending states during peacekeeping operations were discussed.
