On the second day of the HCLA – ADA Executive Program, Professor Friedl Weiss from Vienna University and Professor Kim Van der Borght from Brussels University spoke about the EU, WTO and the development of economic diplomacy.
Professor Friedl Weiss argued about the decision-making process and the competences of the EU institutions enshrined in the treaties and shed light on the role of diplomacy in transnational relations from the EU’s perspective.
In the second session of the day, Professor Kim Van der Borght analyzed the scope of economic diplomacy and provided a comparative overview of the relationship between law and diplomacy in advancing countries’ economic agendas, with particular reference to cases and policies embodied in the GATT and WTO.
At the end of each session, distinguished diplomats, lawyers and governmental officials from Azerbaijan shared their views on the issues brought up in the presentations.
The HCLA – ADA program will continue on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, with the presentation of 3 professors and distinguished experts from Europe and Japan.
