Business leaders, diplomats, and legal practitioners gathered at the Embassy of Mexico in Brussels for the event “Investing and Trading with Mexico – A Global Platform for Strategic Opportunities.” Organised by BE-NEXEL in collaboration with HCLA and Knowleds, the discussion focused on Mexico’s growing importance in global trade and investment, particularly as companies reconfigure supply chains and seek more resilient trade corridors.
Panellists examined Mexico’s value as an investment platform supported by its industrial base, access to major markets, and extensive network of trade agreements. The dialogue also highlighted sectors viewed as especially promising, including advanced manufacturing and automotive supply chains, clean energy, logistics infrastructure, and emerging technology industries, alongside Mexico’s competitive workforce and expanding industrial ecosystem.
A central takeaway from the panels was that market entry and expansion decisions increasingly depend on legal certainty and enforceable risk allocation. Participants emphasised recurring cross-border pressure points, including customs and trade compliance, regulatory permitting and licensing, contract performance and termination disputes, and multi-party supply-chain claims, areas where early legal structuring can significantly reduce the probability and severity of disputes.
The discussions further stressed the importance of dispute-readiness in cross-border projects, including selecting an appropriate governing law and dispute-resolution mechanism, aligning dispute clauses across transaction documents, and ensuring practical paths to interim relief and enforcement when business continuity is at stake.
The event concluded with the observation that Mexico’s opportunity profile is increasingly compelling for international businesses, but that capturing value depends on combining commercial strategy with disciplined legal planning from the outset.
